What this service is, and how it runs

No showroom, no call centre — a measure-and-fit service for ridge houses.

Northcliff Blinds measures, makes and fits window shading across Northcliff and the suburbs below the ridge — Blackheath, Fairland, Weltevredenpark and Windsor. Roller blinds, interior venetians, external venetian blinds and motorised control are each built for one opening in one house. That is not a slogan here: forty-year-old steel-framed openings are rarely square, and nothing ready-made ever sits flush in one.

The order of a job never varies. An enquiry comes in through the form or the chat; one of our expert consultants will contact you shortly, and the free in-home measure is booked from there. On the visit each opening is measured on site, both diagonals checked where the frames are old, and fabric, weave and control chosen against the direction that glass actually faces. A written quote follows, itemised window by window, with no phone call afterwards to push you. Approve it and the work is manufactured to those sizes and fitted, then run through with you before the team leaves.

Questions

Straight answers before you book

Will sunscreen blinds actually keep the ridge view?
Yes — a 3–5% openness sunscreen mesh reads as close to see-through from inside. It cuts glare and UV hard while you can still see out over the ridge. The lower the percentage, the more it blocks, so it's worth judging fabric samples in your own light before deciding.
What actually fixes a west-facing view wall?
In order of effect: external shading (stops heat at the glass), sunscreen mesh inside (cuts glare and load while keeping the view), and motorised automation with a sun sensor so it happens on schedule whether you're home or not.
Do exterior awnings and screens survive a Highveld hailstorm?
Wind is the real risk, more than hail sitting still. We spec awnings and external screens with a wind sensor as standard, so they retract automatically before a gust or a storm reaches them.
Our house is an older Northcliff build — will standard sizes fit?
Not always. Older ridge homes often have non-standard steel-framed openings, which is exactly why every quote starts with an on-site measure rather than a guess from a floor plan.
Is motorisation worth it, or a gimmick?
On a single reachable window, it's a comfort upgrade. On a wide view wall or a run of stacking doors, it's the difference between blinds you actually use every day and blinds you give up on. Wind-sensored exterior products are closer to asset protection than luxury.
